ADULTING GROUND SCHOOL™

Before You Fly.

School teaches you a lot.

It doesn't necessarily teach you how to operate.

How do you take an assignment that isn't completely explained and figure out what to do?

How do you manage your time when nobody is checking on you?

How do you communicate when something isn't going according to plan?

How do you take initiative without overstepping?

How do you recover from a mistake?

How do you know when to ask for help — and when to figure it out yourself?

Those aren't academic skills.

They're the skills of independent adulthood.

And like flying an airplane, you shouldn't have to learn all of them for the first time when the consequences are real.

Welcome to Ground School.

Adulting Ground School™ is a structured, hands-on developmental experience designed to help young adults build the habits, judgment, confidence, and practical skills they need to operate more independently in school, work, and life.

This isn't another class about what you should do.

You'll actually do it.

You'll receive assignments. Make plans. Manage deadlines. Solve problems. Communicate progress. Deal with changing circumstances. Make decisions. Get feedback. Reflect. Adjust.

Because independence isn't something you learn by being told to be more independent.

You learn it by practicing.

THE FLIGHT PLAN

GROUND SCHOOL

Learn how to operate.

Before pilots fly, they learn the fundamentals.

You'll learn practical approaches for managing assignments, priorities, communication, expectations, deadlines, decision-making, and professional behavior.

Not theory for theory's sake.

These are procedures you can actually use.

SIMULATOR

Practice before the stakes are real.

This is where things get interesting.

You'll work through realistic assignments and situations where the instructions may not be perfect, priorities may compete, circumstances may change, and there may be more than one reasonable answer.

That's intentional.

Real life doesn't come with an answer key.

You'll practice figuring out what matters, deciding what to do, communicating your thinking, and adapting when the situation changes.

Then we'll talk about what happened.

CHECK FLIGHT

Show that you can put it together.

Knowing what to do isn't the same as doing it.

You'll complete increasingly independent assignments that require you to apply what you've practiced — planning your work, managing yourself, communicating appropriately, exercising judgment, and following through.

The objective isn't perfection.

It's demonstrating that you can operate without someone constantly operating for you.

SOLO

Take the controls.

Eventually, the instructor gets out of the airplane.

That's the point.

Adulting Ground School isn't designed to make you dependent on another coach, parent, teacher, or supervisor.

It's designed to help you become less dependent on them.

You leave with practical tools, tested routines, greater confidence, and something even more important:

Evidence that you can handle more than you may have thought you could.

This May Be For You If...

You're preparing for college, an internship, your first professional job, or another major step toward independence.

You're smart and capable, but sometimes struggle to turn intentions into action.

You've heard things like:

“Take more initiative.”

“You need to manage your time better.”

“Don't wait for someone to tell you what to do.”

“You need to communicate.”

“You have to start handling this yourself.”

Maybe you even agree.

The problem is that nobody has shown you how to practice those things.

That's what Ground School is for.

FOR PARENTS

You may recognize a frustrating contradiction.

Your young adult is intelligent. Capable. Full of potential.

And yet you still find yourself reminding, checking, prompting, scheduling, rescuing, explaining, or asking:

“Did you do the thing?”

You don't want to manage them forever.

They don't want you managing them forever either.

But simply withdrawing support doesn't necessarily create independence — and continuing to provide it doesn't either.

Adulting Ground School creates a middle ground: a structured environment where young adults can practice independence while the consequences of mistakes are still manageable.

The objective isn't compliance.

It isn't obedience.

And it isn't turning your young adult into somebody else's idea of a successful person.

The objective is capability.

WHAT THEY PRACTICE

Depending on the participant and their goals, the experience may include:

  • Receiving and clarifying assignments

  • Turning an objective into an executable plan

  • Managing time and competing priorities

  • Starting work without repeated prompting

  • Communicating status before someone has to ask

  • Asking useful questions

  • Recognizing when help is actually needed

  • Working through ambiguous instructions

  • Responding when circumstances change

  • Making and explaining decisions

  • Receiving feedback without shutting down

  • Recovering from mistakes

  • Following through

  • Reflecting on performance

  • Developing personal systems that actually work for them

These aren't lessons to memorize.

They're behaviors to practice.

THIS ISN'T THERAPY. IT ISN'T SCHOOL. AND IT ISN'T PARENTING.

Adulting Ground School doesn't diagnose or treat medical, psychological, behavioral, or developmental conditions.

It doesn't replace academic instruction.

And it doesn't take over the parent's job.

This is a developmental learning experience focused on practical capability, professional habits, independent action, and judgment.

Think of it as a controlled environment for practicing something most people are simply expected to figure out:

How to operate as an adult.

YOU DON'T LEARN TO FLY BY READING ABOUT AIRPLANES.

At some point, you have to take the controls.

Adulting Ground School gives young adults a place to learn, practice, make mistakes, receive feedback, try again, and discover what they're capable of doing independently.

Before the internship.

Before the first job.

Before somebody else assumes they already know how.

Before You Fly.
