ONE-ON-ONE COACHING

Build a system that works for you.

What do you want to make easier?

Maybe there's something you want to get better at.

Maybe there's something you want to change.

Or maybe you just want school, activities, work, and everything else you're juggling to feel a little less complicated.

That's where we start.

One-on-one coaching gives you a place to step back, figure out what's working and what isn't, and develop approaches that make sense for you.

You bring what you want to accomplish.

We'll work together to figure out how to get there.

What does coaching actually look like?

Coaching is a conversation, but it’s a conversation with a purpose.

We start with what the young person wants to accomplish and what would make school, activities, work, or everyday responsibilities easier to manage.

Then we look together at what’s actually happening.

Maybe everything works until several deadlines pile up at once. Maybe getting started is harder than finishing. Maybe a system works during a normal week but falls apart when practice, work, or life gets busy. Or maybe there’s a decision to make and it would help to have someone outside the situation to think it through with.

The goal isn’t for me to take over. It’s to help the young person become increasingly capable of figuring out what works for themselves.

Sometimes that means making a plan. Sometimes it means trying a different approach. Sometimes it means recognizing a pattern that wasn’t obvious before.

Then comes the important part: trying it in real life.

At the next conversation, we look at what happened, not whether someone was “good” or “bad” at it, but what worked, what didn’t, and what we can learn from it.

Keep what works. Change what doesn’t. Try again.

Over time, the objective is less dependence on parents, teachers, coaches, including me, and greater confidence in handling things independently.

That’s coaching.

What might we work on?

Every coaching relationship is different because every person is different.

Depending on what you want to accomplish, we might work on things like:

Managing time and competing priorities
School, activities, work, friends, family, and figuring out what needs attention when.

Organization and personal systems
Finding ways to keep track of assignments, commitments, deadlines, and responsibilities that actually fit how you operate.

Getting started and following through
Turning “I know I need to do this” into action, without somebody else always providing the prompt.

Communication
Asking useful questions, speaking up when something isn't going according to plan, and communicating what you need.

Decisions and problem-solving
Thinking through choices, dealing with uncertainty, and becoming more comfortable making your own decisions.

Preparing for greater independence
Building the habits and confidence you'll need for college, work, internships, and whatever comes next.

We don't have to decide all of that before we start.

We start with what matters to you.

For parents and the young person being coached: Trust matters.

When a parent or guardian is sponsoring coaching, they reasonably want to know that the engagement is productive.

The young person also needs space to have an honest conversation without wondering whether everything they say will be reported back home.

We’ll talk about those expectations at the beginning so everyone understands how the relationship will work.

Parents may receive appropriate information about things like attendance, participation, and progress toward agreed goals.

The substance of individual coaching conversations remains private, subject to appropriate safety and legal exceptions.

The objective isn’t secrecy.

It’s creating enough trust for honest coaching to happen while keeping parents appropriately informed about the engagement they’re supporting.

Ready to see if coaching might help?

You don’t need to know exactly what the goal should be or have everything figured out before we talk.

We can start with what’s happening now, what the young person would like to make easier or accomplish, and whether coaching seems like the right kind of support.

The first conversation is simply a chance to see if we’re a good fit.
